Peer reviewing of grants
As part of BRICs ongoing commitment to fostering a collaborative and supportive research environment, the BRIC grants team is putting together a database of postdocs and assistant professors who are interested to act as reviewers for grant applications submitted by your peers.
We encourage all of you with less or more experience to sign up so that we can provide reviewers at all levels and so the less experienced can learn from the more experienced.
Acting as a reviewer for grant applications can be a valuable experience for several reasons:
- Professional Development: an excellent opportunity to enhance your skills in critically evaluating research proposals. This experience can be beneficial for your own future grant writing and career advancement.
- Networking and Collaboration: Get to know your peers and possibly find opportunities for collaboration as you discuss and evaluate proposals together.
- Insight into the Funding Process: Becoming involved in the review process provides valuable insight into how funding decisions are made, which can be beneficial for understanding the priorities and criteria of funding agencies.
- Recognition and Service: Serving as a reviewer demonstrates your commitment to the research community and can enhance your professional reputation as a knowledgeable and engaged member of the field.
- Transferable Skills: Even if you're not planning to stay in academia long-term, reviewing grants can provide valuable experience in critical analysis and decision-making that's applicable in many career paths.
